I’m trying to stay out of my being-stuck-in-the-house funk, but it’s tough. What doesn’t help matters is the fact that we’ve had the biggest heat wave here for centuries, with the temperatures being 40+ celsius for an insane amount of time. Apparently we’re breaking records from the 1960s. It’s hard to not be able to just go out or go swimming or to the lake or jump in a cold shower. I also think I’m gaining weight due to not really being able to exercise. And I was actually losing weight before my surgery!

I’ve been walking around the apartment pretty much all the time without my crutches, but I still use my crutches when I go out. I’ve also been doing some cleaning and organizing, despite the heat. I cleaned my room and organized all my clothes this week. Since then, however, I have not really felt like cleaning all the other things I need to, such as the den and the bathroom. In addition to that, I’ve had a lot of insomnia lately and also some foot pain. Sometimes the foot pain causes me not to be able to sleep at night, and sometimes I just can’t sleep. I try reading before bed, (currently reading The Glass Castle, just as good if not better than The Memory Keeper’s Daughter) but nothing seems to help.

I’m kind of frustrated with my doctors, Dr. L and Dr. M disagreed on many things from the beginning, and now Dr. L tells me I shouldn’t be walking on it, and Dr. M says I should be. They both, however, suggested that I get this particular Air Cast, which I did from Amazon cuz they’re $150 elsewhere, and it does make it easier to walk; the only problem is I can feel it pressing both on my incision and where the pin is. Hopefully once the pin comes out it will hurt less and I can walk in that until I can walk in a normal shoe again.

Doctors can be very frustrating for a patient recovering from surgery. I suppose I could call Dr. M again, although if I do, Dr. L will just tell me something different. Frustrations, frustrations. Enough whining for now.

I’m so stoked!! I woke up this morning to see an Amazon box on the kitchen table, and when I opened it I saw a book I’ve wanted for years. Pearls Before Swine is my favorite comic strip, but I don’t have many of the books yet. Since I’ve been feeling pretty cooped up after the surgery and haven’t been able to go out and get anything, my boyfriend ordered this from my amazon wishlist for me!! For those of you who have never read Pearls, you should definitely check it out. They have several books out now, so far my favourite ones are BLTs Taste So Darn Good, This Little Piggy Stayed Home, and The Sopratos.

Today I got this one:

My foot is slowly getting better. I get my stitches out in two days, which I’m really excited about as they are very itchy. As long as I keep my foot up and iced I’m not in much pain, but as soon as it’s below my waist it throbs. The itchiness sometimes wakes me up at night, so I can’t wait until Friday. Will keep hanging in there for now. At least I have my books to keep me company.

I was at the library today looking for books to read during my recovery time. I’ve already picked up some random craft kits and DVDs, but I enjoy reading and rarely get the chance to read anything that’s not a textbook. So this is the perfect opportunity! I got one book that I started reading the first couple pages of, and couldn’t put it down! My friends and boyfriend are saying, “What are you doing girl, you should be active while you still can!” but it’s great. The book is called The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. It’s fantastic. I literally read the whole thing in days, it’s that good.

One week to go! And boy am I working a lot this week…
