I woke up this morning to the sound of the door, and lo and behold it was the movie I had ordered from Amazon! Since I can’t get out of the house, I’ve been doing a lot of online shopping… too much, really (whoops, hope my parents aren’t reading this since they’re helping me with money!). Anyhow, I had ordered the two-disc special edition director’s cut of Watchmen.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, it is a must. You don’t need to see the extended version, which is three hours, but it’s definitely worth the extended scenes. The special effects of this movie are amazing and I am in love with it, even though I normally don’t like those types of movies and initially I only saw it because my boyfriend wanted to. I ended up loving it and seeing it twice in theatres, and then pre-ordered the director’s cut from Amazon. I’m so excited!

Wow, despite my foot it’s been a pretty crazy week for me. This past weekend I went home to Vancouver for my dad’s 60th birthday. Steve rented a wheelchair for me on the ferry because of the long walk to the passenger pick-up. It was quite interesting with everyone staring at me! At least we got a ride to the ferry terminal from a friend so I didn’t have to try to catch two buses with my foot being the way it is.

My dad had a few people over, mostly family, and we had rented tables and chairs. It was a smashing success, however I felt useless not being able to help. My brother and sister-in-law did so much of the work. Shortly after getting my stitches out, I started walking a little bit around the apartment without crutches, mostly on the side of my foot that wasn’t operated on. Because I wanted to help with the party, setting up and everything, I walked on it quite a bit because there wasn’t much room for crutches. As well, when all the guests came, I didn’t use my crutches and instead walked. It was tough because I wanted to talk to everybody, but so many of the guests were standing in random places which I couldn’t do. After a few minutes I sat on the couch and just talked to whoever came in there.

It was good to see everyone, but trying to explain my foot story over and over again became a bit tedious. Since I’m not on painkillers anymore I was able to drink a little bit, and I was all dressed up. It was a good night, but I certainly was in pain by the end of the night.

The next morning we went out for breakfast and I used my crutches without putting any weight on my foot. I had to be careful not to walk much for a couple of days to give my foot a chance to recover a bit.

But it is so hard to use crutches in this heat. We are at the start of another heat wave here, a record-breaking heat wave. And trying to walk outside with crutches? Tough! I can’t wait until I can get rid of them for good.

Yesterday I had an appointment with my naturopath who I’ve been seeing for a while. It is only about a ten minute walk from my place, so I figured I could get there no problem. I left nearly half an hour before the appointment, and still struggled to be on time. I hate crutches SO much! Not to mention, it was 24 degrees celsius outside, so I was really hot. I managed to hobble home as well, but when I got home, my arms were so sore, and my wrists were scraped up from the pins on my crutches. It was awful.

Today is even worse. I can barely move or type. Every single muscle in my body is just aching, including every arm muscle, the muscles in my good leg, and muscles running down my back. I’ve been taking lots of Robaxacet and using Icy Hot Gel which has been a Godsend, honestly! I seriously had no idea crutches hurt so much though. Ugh.

I won’t be moving again for a while.

Tomorrow will have been one week since the surgery, and I’m going to get my dressing changed by Dr. L. As of right now I’m still in quite a bit of pain, but am tapering off of the Percocet. I am still getting random stabbing pains in my foot, although there is still a large portion of my big toe that I don’t have feeling back in yet. My friend is going to drive me to my appointment tomorrow, so I don’t need to taxi which is great.

I’ve had a pretty steady stream of visitors so far, and some of my best friends were over on Saturday night which was great. My friend Katelyn brought me some pretty flowers, and others have lent me movies and video games. They’ve also brought me yummy food, berries and chocolate and stuff. I still have very little appetite, but it’s slowly coming back as I take less Percocet.

Well I will update again after my dressing change tomorrow.

Even though I’ve been working a lot this week, I’ve been getting out a lot and trying to enjoy what little I have left of my summer before I’m unable to walk. Working so much is really hard though; I come home every day after being on my feet for 8 hours and they ache so badly I can hardly walk. Mostly from my left bunion, which is the one I’m getting operated on. But soon it will be gone, and hopefully that will reduce my pain.

A couple of days ago some friends and I went hiking at a lake near here and had a picnic. It was so great it made me depressed that I won’t be able to do that any other time this summer. I took a lot of pictures, here is one of the beautiful lake from the top of the mountain:

I’m going to miss out on so much this summer But this surgery is now or never, and it needs to be done.

P.S. Happy Canada Day!

So I talked to my boss today and told him about my surgery. I work at a small grocery store, have been there for two years. I don’t work often as I just finished second year of nursing, but he was planning on putting me at nearly full time this summer because two people are leaving and the rest want to go on vacation. He was not exactly happy about my surgery, but said it was okay. They are giving me an 8 or 9 week medical leave, unpaid of course. So I’ll be broke, but at least I didn’t lose my job permanently.

Two weeks til the surgery! I’m getting out and enjoying the beautiful weather while I still can.
